GI-MAP + SIBO

A thorough two-part gut assessment. GI-MAP maps the microbiome and digestive function, while the SIBO breath test checks for bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine.
Combines two complementary gut tests to provide a more complete assessment of digestive health. GI-MAP evaluates the gut microbiome and intestinal function, while the SIBO breath test identifies bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine. Together, they help investigate common causes of bloating, excess gas, abdominal discomfort and altered bowel habits.

  • Combines GI-MAP and a SIBO breath test into one bundle — both ordered through Nordic Laboratories from a single request.
  • GI-MAP assesses the gut microbiome, pathogens, digestive function, immune activity and intestinal inflammation from a single stool sample.
  • The SIBO breath test measures hydrogen and methane gases to identify small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, collected at home over a few hours.
  • Together they provide a more complete picture of gut health than either test alone.
  • Optional Zonulin add-on available — a marker of intestinal permeability that can be added to the GI-MAP component.

GI-MAP and a SIBO breath test cover different parts of the gut. GI-MAP looks at the large intestine and overall microbiome, digestive markers and inflammation, while the SIBO test focuses on bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine. Running both is useful when symptoms like bloating, wind and altered bowel habits point to more than one cause.

SIBO test → Full detail on the breath test, substrate choice and preparation.

Choosing your SIBO substrate

The SIBO breath test uses either lactulose or glucose. You choose your substrate in the order form below. If you’re not sure which is right for you, select “please advise me” and I’ll help you decide.

This bundle includes the complete marker panels from both the GI-MAP and SIBO Breath Test. For a full breakdown of the markers included in each test, please see the individual test pages below.

GI-MAP — Gut Microbiome Panel

Bacterial pathogens · H. pylori + 8 virulence factors · antibiotic resistance genes · parasites and worms · fungi and yeast · opportunistic viruses · beneficial and opportunistic bacteria · markers of digestive and intestinal health (elastase, calprotectin, sIgA, occult blood). View full GI-MAP marker list →

SIBO Breath Test

Hydrogen and methane gas measurements taken over a series of timed breath samples following a substrate drink · identifies small intestinal bacterial overgrowth · choice of lactulose or glucose substrate. View full SIBO test detail →

Zonulin (optional add-on to GI-MAP)

An optional marker used to assess intestinal permeability. Select the + Zonulin bundle option above to include it.

Neither test is linked to your menstrual cycle, so both can be completed at any time. The SIBO breath test requires a short period of preparation beforehand.

GI-MAP — stool collection

Can be collected on any day, as no cycle timing is required. Ideally collect your sample on a Sunday or Monday. Follow the preparation instructions before collection. See the GI-MAP page for full preparation guidance, including medication and supplement requirements.

SIBO — breath test

Involves a restricted prep diet the day before, then an overnight fast. On the test morning you take a baseline breath sample, drink the substrate solution, then collect timed breath samples over the following hours. All done at home. You choose your lactulose or glucose substrate in the order form below. See the SIBO test page for full preparation guidance.

Comprehensive gut assessment

This bundle combines two complementary tests that assess different parts of the digestive tract. GI-MAP evaluates the large intestine and overall microbiome, while the SIBO breath test checks for bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine. It’s ideal when symptoms such as bloating, wind and altered bowel habits may have more than one cause, providing a more complete picture in a single assessment.

If you already know you only need one of these, the individual GI-MAP and SIBO pages let you order each test on its own.

Yes. Many people choose to complete both tests during the same period. As the SIBO breath test requires a preparation diet and fasting beforehand, we recommend following the collection guidance provided with each kit. If you’re unsure of the best order to complete the tests, please get in touch before starting, and I’ll be happy to advise.

Yes, if possible. Each order includes one prepaid return label, so both completed tests should be returned together. If you’d prefer to return them separately, you can purchase an additional return label from Nordic Laboratories.
