- Uses quantitative PCR (qPCR) technology to assess the gut microbiome from a single stool sample.
- Screens for pathogenic bacteria, parasites, viruses, fungi and yeasts, including H. pylori and its virulence factors.
- Evaluates beneficial bacteria, opportunistic bacteria, bacterial balance and microbial diversity.
- Includes digestive, immune and inflammatory markers including elastase, steatocrit, secretory IgA, calprotectin, occult blood and beta-glucuronidase.
- Optional add-ons: Zonulin (intestinal permeability) and StoolOMX (bile acid metabolism and short-chain fatty acid analysis).
The GI-MAP is a DNA-based stool analysis using quantitative PCR (qPCR) technology to assess the gut microbiome, digestive function, immune activity and intestinal inflammation from a single stool sample.
Zonulin is a marker associated with intestinal permeability and may provide additional information when impaired gut barrier function is suspected. It can be useful alongside the GI-MAP when investigating digestive symptoms, inflammation or complex chronic health concerns. Select GI-MAP + Zonulin above.
StoolOMX provides additional analysis of bile acid metabolism and short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), offering further insight into digestive function, microbial metabolism and the gut environment. Select GI-MAP + StoolOMX above.
The GI-MAP can identify dysbiosis patterns associated with SIBO, but a dedicated breath test is required for a direct SIBO diagnosis. The two tests can be run together.
The GI-MAP uses qPCR technology to test everything from a single stool sample. The number of panels below reflects the comprehensiveness of the technology — not multiple tests. Results are reported quantitatively, so you can see not just whether something is present, but how much.
These are beneficial bacteria. Higher levels generally indicate a healthier gut microbiome. Low levels may suggest a need for dietary changes, prebiotics or probiotics.
These bacteria are not harmful in small amounts but can cause symptoms when overgrown. Elevated levels may indicate dysbiosis or microbial imbalance.
Certain bacteria have been associated with triggering or worsening autoimmune conditions through molecular mimicry and immune dysregulation.
Helps guide treatment decisions — particularly whether antibiotic therapy is appropriate and which antibiotics are likely to be effective against the specific H. pylori strain.
Zonulin is available as an optional add-on when ordering GI-MAP + Zonulin. Select above.
Please read the full collection instructions included with your kit before collecting your sample. The manufacturer’s instructions always take precedence over this summary.
The GI-MAP requires a single stool sample collected at home. It can be completed on any day of your cycle, provided you follow the preparation instructions below.
Never stop prescription medication without consulting your healthcare provider first.
Before collecting your sample, wait:
- 14 days after antibiotics, antiparasitics, antifungals, bismuth, proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and probiotic supplements
- 4–6 weeks after immune suppressants or oral steroids
- 4 weeks after a colonoscopy or barium enema
- Lactoferrin supplements
- Aspirin or other NSAIDs
- Digestive enzymes
- Antacids
- Iron supplements or more than 250mg vitamin C daily
- Activated charcoal, bentonite clay, betaine HCl
- Laxatives, enemas, suppositories or mineral oil
Menstruating or actively bleeding from haemorrhoids.
Probiotic supplements can influence microbiome results. If you want to assess your baseline microbiome without supplementation, stop probiotics for 2 weeks before testing. If you want to evaluate the effect of your current probiotic, continue taking it.
Whenever possible, collect your sample on a Sunday or Monday so it reaches the laboratory promptly. Ship within 24 hours of collection using the prepaid return label included with your kit. Follow the enclosed instructions to arrange collection.
The GI-MAP is suitable for people with persistent digestive symptoms, suspected gut dysbiosis or those looking for a comprehensive assessment of digestive function, the gut microbiome, immune activity and intestinal inflammation. Results should always be interpreted alongside symptoms, medical history and other clinical findings.
If SIBO or intestinal methanogen overgrowth (IMO) is your primary concern, a dedicated SIBO Triple Gas Breath Test is recommended. The GI-MAP and SIBO Breath Test answer different clinical questions and are often complementary.
Zonulin is a marker associated with intestinal permeability and may provide additional information when impaired gut barrier function is suspected.
StoolOMX adds bile acid metabolism and short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) analysis — particularly relevant for bloating, fat digestion difficulties, diarrhoea or gut motility concerns.
Both add-ons can be selected together for the most comprehensive assessment.
Results Review Consultation (£175) — a 45-minute Zoom consultation to go through your results, answer your questions and discuss next steps. Written recommendations included after the call.
Comprehensive Consultation (£275) — a 75-minute consultation including a full health history review, symptom assessment and detailed interpretation of your results in context. Includes a personalised written protocol with diet, lifestyle and supplement recommendations where appropriate.
