Understand the story behind your results
You may have been told that your blood tests are “normal”, but you still don’t feel like yourself. Or perhaps your hormones have been tested before, but you’re left wondering what the numbers actually mean for you.
A DUTCH result is only one part of the picture. I look at your hormones alongside your symptoms, health history, lifestyle and, where relevant, blood or gut testing to understand the patterns that may be contributing to how you feel.

Interpreting DUTCH tests since
Why Dutch testing
Every sample has a story.
The DUTCH test measures more than hormone levels. It shows how your body makes, uses and clears hormones — including metabolites that blood and saliva tests often miss. That’s where the real story lives. And that’s what I help you understand.
What the DUTCH measures
A complete metabolic hormone picture
A blood test tells you how much oestrogen is circulating at one moment. The DUTCH test goes further, looking at your hormones and their metabolites to show not only your hormone levels, but how your body is processing and clearing them.
It’s that depth which makes it clinically useful. Not just for identifying imbalances, but for understanding the patterns behind your symptoms and helping to build a more targeted plan.
Oestrogen
- Oestrone (E1), Oestradiol (E2), Oestriol (E3)
- Oestrogen metabolism: 2-OHE1, 4-OHE1, 16-OHE1
- Phase 2 Methylation: of oestrogen metabolites (2-MeOE1)
Progesterone
- Progesterone metabolites: alpha and beta-pregnanediol
- Progesterone output and metabolism pattern
Androgens & Metabolites
- Testosterone, 5a-DHT, DHEA, DHEA-S
- Androgen metabolites: androsterone, etiocholanolone
- 5a vs 5b reductase conversion preference
Cortisol & Adrenal
- Diurnal Pattern of Free Cortisol & Cortisone
- Cortisol awakening response (CAR)
- Metabolised cortisol , cortisol Clearance and systemic preference
Organic acid Markers
- Melatonin , oxidative stress markers
- Neurotransmitter metabolites: dopamine, noradrenaline, neuroinflammation
- B12, B6, biotin, glutathione, Indican (gut marker)
Why it matters
Urine, saliva, and serum — what each actually tests
Measures hormones that have been taken up by tissues throughout the body and metabolised. Collection represents average levels over hours — not a single snapshot.
Blood stream
↓
Whole body tissue uptake
↓
Utilisation & metabolism
↓
Blood stream → Kidneys → Urine × 4 samples
Measures free hormones that have been taken up by salivary gland tissues specifically. Collection represents salivary levels at that single point in time.
Blood stream
↓
Salivary gland tissue uptake
Measures total hormones in transit to tissues — mostly bound and non-bioavailable. Collection represents blood levels at that single point in time.
Production

Blood stream
The DUTCH test uses dried urine — which is why it can show you not just how much hormone is circulating, but what your body is actually doing with it.
Why work with me
I've been doing this since 2017
I started interpreting DUTCH results in 2017. Since then, I’ve worked through hundreds of cases across different life stages, including complex presentations involving HRT, Mirena IUD, Fibriods, PCOS, thyroid health and metabolic factors.
Other practitioners also bring their more complex DUTCH cases to me for a second clinical opinion.
For practitioners: if you have a complex DUTCH case you’d like a second clinical opinion on, I offer peer consultation. The client doesn’t need to see me — this can stay entirely between us.

Questions
Common questions about DUTCH testing
Do I need to order my DUTCH test through you?
No. I can interpret DUTCH results ordered through Regenerus Labs, Nordic Labs or another practitioner. If you haven’t tested yet, you can order your DUTCH test directly through my shop.
Which DUTCH version is right for me?
It depends on your symptoms and cycle status. DUTCH Complete covers most women well. DUTCH Plus includes everything in DUTCH Complete and adds the Cortisol Awakening Response (CAR), giving a more detailed picture of your cortisol and stress response. It can be particularly useful when fatigue, sleep problems or stress are an important part of the picture.
Cycle Mapping is for women who are still cycling and need to see how oestrogen and progesterone change throughout the menstrual cycle rather than relying on a single-day snapshot. I’ve written a full guide — read it here — or get in touch if you’re unsure which test is right for you.
Can I do a DUTCH test while on HRT or the contraceptive pill?
On HRT: Yes. I regularly interpret DUTCH tests for women using HRT. I usually recommend DUTCH Complete or DUTCH Plus, which can assess hormone metabolism, androgen metabolites and cortisol patterns. Your HRT type, dose and timing are taken into account when interpreting your results.
On the contraceptive pill: I generally don’t recommend DUTCH testing while on the Pill if you want to assess your natural hormones, as the Pill suppresses your own ovarian hormone production. Ideally, wait for around 3 natural cycles after stopping the Pill before testing. If your cycles don’t return or are very irregular, I can advise you on the best testing option.
If you are staying on the Pill, DUTCH Adrenal testing may still be useful if the main concern is stress, fatigue, sleep or cortisol patterns, without trying to assess your natural reproductive hormones.
How is a proper interpretation different from what the lab report shows?
Can I bring other blood test results to the consultation?
I'm a practitioner — can I refer clients to you or get a peer consultation?
